ISO has released the updated Pre-Requisite Programs (PRPs), ie ISO 22002-X series, replacing the previous ISO/TS 22002-X series.
The new version introduces a common framework—ISO 22002-100:2025—which sets universal requirements for establishing and maintaining prerequisite programs (PRPs) across the food, feed, and packaging supply chain to assist in controlling food safety hazards with an FSMS.
Then, on top of this, for each sector, there is an additional sector-specific PRP standard that also applies. These include:
- ISO 22002-1:2025: Food manufacturing
- ISO 22002-2:2025: Catering
- ISO 22002-4:2025: Food packaging manufacturing
- ISO 22002-5:2025: Transport and storage
- ISO 22002-6:2025: Feed and animal food production
- ISO 22002-7:2025: Retail and wholesale.
Note: There is no update to ISO/TS 22002-3:2011 as no revision for the farming PRP standard was made.
IAF and ISO have not yet released the transition requirements and timeline for the updated standards, but these will be released later. Organisations utilising this series of standards need to adhere to the requirements of ISO 22002-100:2025 and the relevant sector-specific part(s), as per the above list.
TQCSI is licensed to provide accredited FSSC 22000 certifications for the following PRPs:
- ISO 22002-1: Food manufacturing
- ISO 22002-4: Food packaging manufacturing
What does this mean for the FSSC 22000 Scheme?
For an FSSC certified organisation, no changes are required as FSSC 22000 Version 6 continues to utilise the existing ISO/TS 22002-X series as defined under the Scheme, Part 1, Section 3, Table 1, and Part 2, Section 2.4.
The updated ISO 22002-X:2025 series standards are planned to be incorporated into Version 7 of the Scheme.
