MSC - USING THE MSC LOGO

In order to use the MSC logo on seafood products it is first necessary to be certified for chain of custody. This involves an independent certification body assessing the applicant's traceability systems and ensuring they are sourcing from certified suppliers. Click here for information about chain of custody certification. After being certified for chain of custody, it is necessary to obtain a logo licence from the MSC's trading company, Marine Stewardship Council International (MSCI). For more information about MSCI and merchandise please use the navigation on the left.

Guidelines for use of the MSC logo

Consumer facing use of the MSC logo

An organisation wishing to display the MSC logo on retail and independent brand MSC-labelled seafood products, menus in foodservice outlets and direct to consumer websites must undergo Chain of Custody Certification to ensure that the products are sourced from a fishery certified to the MSC Standard.

Once certification has been received, the products are eligible to carry the MSC logo.

Click here for the Regulations and Guidelines (consumer facing use of the MSC logo).

Off-product use of the MSC logo

An organisation wishing to use the MSC logo for the purpose of promoting MSC-labelled products (e.g. point-of-sale material, sales catalogues, brochures) or for educational purposes may apply to the MSC for an 'Off-Product' licence to do so.
Click here for the Summary of Regulations and Guidelines (off-product use).
